Valley Girls* Erin and Chrystie sit down with Lanna to talk about The County, underage drinking, coupon mavens, and rock star chefs. Chrystie talks about how she makes things popular (MAGIC!) and Erin tells us how she gets kids to eat good food. *St. Johns Valley, that is.

Erin Dow

Erin Dow is the mother of three children, ages 11, 10, and 6 and is the Expert Chef for Guiding Stars, a nutritional navigation system that evaluates the healthfulness of foods based on nutrient density. She consults with school nutrition programs on healthy kid-approved recipe and menu development with a focus on scratch cooked foods. Her career as a chef spans fifteen years.

Heather Denkmireis a writer, a mother, and an artist. She helps non-profits raise money through grants with her business, grantwinners.net. It's her children (a nearly 9 year old and a just 3 year old) who get most of her time, though. She lives in Portland with her two beautiful daughters.

Pat and Lanna talk about how they met, girl geekdom, Edward R. Murrow, and better living through technology. Lanna asks Pat about her passions. Pat explains why she let go of a creative process and expounds on the awesomeness of her cats. And she answers 10 questions.

Pat Washburn is a recovering journalist, a graduate student in computer science and a Web designer and developer. Under the name Jane Raeburn, she has written a couple of books about modern Pagan religion. Among the things that interest her are ways to use technology to tell stories and improve people's lives. She still thinks the Internet is pretty neat. She lives in Portland, Maine, with two cats, four computers and her ex-husband's TV. The latest addition to the WPOR 101.9 morning crew, Rachel Flehinger has been teaching performance for 13 years. She is a founding member of the improv comedy group Running with Scissors and is the winner of 2011 and 2012 Portland Phoenix Best Comedian. Rachel started her teaching career in New York City and is now proud to call Maine her home.

She is a Child-Centered Play Therapist and Mental Health Counselor by profession and passion.

Our guest this week is award-winning blogger, columnist, and non-profit goddess Shay Stewart-Bouley. Her blog, Black Girl in Maine, was named to Babble’s Top 100 Mom Bloggers of 2011. Also in 2011, she won a New England Press Association award for her writing on diversity issues at her monthly column at the Portland Phoenix, entitled Diverse-City. In the non-profit sector, Shay is the executive director of the Biddeford’s Joyful Harvest Neighborhood Center.
