It's been a long time! Join me as I discuss what I've been up to and what we have in store next for Lounging with LannaLee! I maintain my veneer of positivity, shout out to Kitty Critic, and lead off with a freudian slip. Have a new day job and new apartment, but the Lounge, it's eternal.

Recorded in the aftermath of Huzzah! the Historical Wargaming Convention for New England, Flip brings the Bance! We talk about board games, clowning, balloon twisting and how to make the world a better place. Flip dishes that he met his wife Deb while playing Magic The Gathering. We chat about Flip The Table, playing HeartThrob, VHS tape games, and what BANCE really means. We commiserate about getting pulled over in our clown costumes, and reminisce about wearing our costumes in public. Flip talks about working as the Easter Bunny and tells me why he takes funny business seriously. And he answers 10 questions.

Flip Florey

Since his application to Starfleet as the first Jedi/Robot Lion pilot was denied at the age of 12, Flip Florey went on to greater things. Such as balloon twisting, clowning, boardgame evangelist, podcaster and student. Long time friend of the one and only Lanna Lee and fellow enthusiastic cat lover, Flip Florey is one bad bald dude that can't dance and dreams about hunting down a copy of Vanilla Ice's Electronic Rap and Rhyme board game one of these days.

LLL086 Todd Neufeld: Wherein Todd is a bad influence

Todd and I sit down to chat after helping build a 5-story balloon sculpture and reminisce of our days twisting together in Boston; back when I was a clown and he was a law student. Todd tells me how we can make the world a better place and he solves my performance anxiety. We are too loud for Suzanne, and won't let Mike in the room. We talk about "Lawyer school" and how Todd created Manager Sal. Todd dishes about twisting balloons at the White House. And he answers 10 questions.

Todd Neufeld

Todd "Twistin' Todd" Neufeld is a professional balloon artist in New York City. He has been featured in many TV shows and magazines, at the White House, and most recently, on an episode of Lounging with LannaLee.

In the aftermath of building a 5-story balloon Jack and His Beanstalk at Balloon Manor 2014, I sit down with Airigami's artistic director, Kelly Cheatle. We talk about the artistic proccess, and how Kelly says we can make the world a better place. Hint: Don't be a Jerk! Kelly talks about how she started making incredible, large-scale balloon sculptures, and encourages us all to open a door for someone, literally or figuratively. And she answers 10 questions.

Kelly Cheatle

Artist Kelly Cheatle has been fascinated with micro art since the age of 10, when she read an article about scientists etching miniature angels on the head of a pin. Since then, she’s created miniature, wheel-thrown teapots and highly-detailed crochet sculptures – both small enough to sit on a penny.

Kelly received her Design degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a minor in Illustration and a major interest in every studio elective she could find. Her diverse knowledge of traditional materials and image-making techniques has given her an appreciation for texture and dimensionality, even in digital formats.

ln 2001, she founded Greener Pastures Design & Illustration, and her graphic work appears nationally. When given an opportunity to work with balloons during Balloon Manor 2006, she was excited about a new medium for creating artwork. Now, as a partner in Airigami, her design sense and illustration background have helped to take it in new directions, including designing inflated fashions that have appeared on runways in Rochester, NYC and Las Vegas.

Here is the third part of a six-part series featuring those special people who make art and entertainment out of folding air into latex balloons. Our conversations centered on making a living doing art, how they started in the biz and their creative processes. Laypeople and twisters alike will enjoy these fantastic conversations.

Larry and Lanna chat about art, minor celebrity and being balloon famous. They discuss using community to create large-scale balloon sculptures and the ins and outs of getting a Guinness World record. Lanna quizzes Larry about his adventures in Cannes with Bright Bricks and Aardman Animations. Larry talks about his really bad Harry Anderson impression. And he answers 10 questions.

Larry Moss

Larry Moss began his career in 1985 as a NYC street performer, but has gone on to display his amazing air-filled art in 12 countries on four continents. His achievements have been recognized by The Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press, CNN Headline, PBS, Smithsonian Magazine, American Profile and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Moss has appeared on The Martha Stewart Show, NBC's "Today" and at the White House, and has held the Guinness World Record for the largest non-round balloon sculpture since 2000. The author of many published ballooning books, Larry also has a degree in applied math and computer science, as well as a master’s in elementary education. Building community through his large-scale art creations is of particular interest to Larry, and was the focus of his 2009 TEDx talk in Rochester, NY.

Here is the second part of a six-part series featuring those special people who make art and entertainment out of folding air into latex balloons. Our conversations centered on making a living doing art, how they started in the biz and their creative processes. Laypeople and twisters alike will enjoy these fantastic conversations.

Annie and Lanna talk about collaboration, being creative and getting in touch with their inner brats. They discuss the finer points of improv. Annie confesses she doesn't want a job and ponders the eternal question "Why do you think that's funny?" And she answers 10 questions.

About Annie Banannie in her own words

Hi, I’m Annie Banannie …

When you’re a kid, having the courage to write a story and share it with others is a huge thing!

I travel to elementary schools and show students how fun it is to write a story, and then I give them a reason to share it: How about a contest with awesome prizes? After we’re done with the assembly, the teachers use my contest and the classroom materials to make writing assignments feel like a game.

Why am I so passionate about this? I was THAT KID – the kid who couldn’t control my impulses: always getting in trouble, talking in class, etc.

I was BORED. (A little ADD didn’t help things either.) I only wanted to learn what I was interested in, not the class assignments. So, I got to know the principal a little too well.

Then I found music and theater. This was it! Here were the stories I loved, and now I got to tell them – loudly! Life was good, but only outside of school.

Later, I discovered making up stories with kids is even more fun than musical theater. The sillier the story, the more fun we have, and the more we learn together. You see, kids don’t hate to learn. They just want to learn stuff they’re interested in, not what the California State Standards say it’s time for them to learn.

So, our challenge: Can we make the educational standards exciting? You betcha.

I turn California Language Arts Standards into a 60-minute creative extravaganza where students can’t wait to share what they know.

I’m also the founder of StorytellerKids.com, which will be a safe online community where kids can share stories they write and earn prizes while they’re at it!

My experiences as a kid in music and theater, and later as a storyteller, have shown me that if kids get passionate about something, there’s no stopping them. Now let’s bring that passion into the classroom and watch what happens.

What will make Candace Karu wear palazzo pants and carry a long cigarette? Lanna hunkers down with Favorite Foodie Candace for a rousing discussion of food, art, and work/life balance. Lanna learns about the meditative properties of running. Candace shares her appreciation of great cheddar and passion for healthy living. And she answers 10 questions.

Candace Karu on Candace Karu:

My career path may seem like a joyride through life with no discernible connections from one stop to the next. On closer inspection, however, you might see the very real ties that bind the experiences into a cohesive, if unusual whole. If the ties are not readily apparent, then perhaps the journey is interesting enough on its own.
After studying Russian and Chinese at Ohio University, I went on to promote rock concerts in Los Angeles, work as an advertising and public relations executive in Washington, DC, design interiors for both residential and commercial projects, take up a full-time studio practice as an artist, and work as a freelance writer.
In the early 1990s, as a working mother with two young children I discovered distance running, a pastime that quickly became a passion. I ran my first marathon in 1990, eventually qualifying for the 100th running of the Boston Marathon in 1995. This experience led me to an assignment for Running Times magazine, where I started as a freelance writer and eventually became Editor at Large. My column "The Running Life" appeared in the magazine for more than three years. I also wrote articles on cross training, nutrition, personality profiles, and apparel and gear reviews. While at Running Times, I edited the popular how-to book, "The Running Times Guide to Breakthrough Running" with Gordon Bakoulis.
I left Running Times in 2007 and became Editor at Large at Maine Home+Design magazine, where I wrote about art, architecture, design, and cuisine.
In 2009, I was named the Consumer Lifestyle Commentator & Favorite Foodie (yes, that’s my real title) for Cabot Creamery in Vermont. In this capacity I write about health, fitness, lifestyle, and wellness, as well as representing Cabot at culinary, health and fitness events around the country. I am also the social media voice for this iconic New England brand. Cabot is a company with a rich 90+ year history, and remains cooperatively owned by the dairy farmers who share in 100% of its profits. It is Cabot's commitment to helping their consumers lead the best lives possible and my own work supporting those goals that brought my career full circle.
In addition to my work at Cabot, I maintain an interior design practice with my daughter, Tyler. Our company, Karu Decor, serves residential clients in New England and New York.
Having served on the board of the Maine College of Art since 1991, I am the past Chair of the MECA Board of Trustees. I am on the board of the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance, and Engine, an arts advocacy organization in Biddeford, Maine. I also serve on the Advisory Board of ZAP Fitness Foundation in Blowing Rock, NC.
I can be found on the coast of Maine, hanging out with my two ill-behaved dogs and cooking for a rag-tag assortment of family and friends. I am still committed to fitness and running, having participated in over two hundred road races around the world, including nineteen marathons.

Currently, Tina co-hosts poetry writing and performance workshops and a weekly poetry open mic with musical accompaniment, Rhythmic Cypher, Every Sunday at 7pm at Slainte in Portland, Maine which features local, regional and national performance poets, musicians and the occasional travelling queer circus. As co-founder of The Poet Rising Project, Tina also offers poetry writing and performance workshops to youth in middle and high schools and at the Preble Street Teen Center.

Tina's poem, Tomboy is significant because it is a coming out story about becoming comfortable in her own skin after growing up in a hetero-environment and being discharged from the military for admitting her sexual identity. The poem recalls painful memories of rejection and conformity with a sense of humor and explains a healing process of accepting one’s own identity and finding empowerment in that acceptance.
